Reverend Dr. Claude A. Shuford

Reverend Dr. Claude A. Shuford was born in Wetumpka, Alabama and is the ninth of eleven children of the late Mr. Robert and Reverend Cora Shuford. 

Dr. Shuford attended public school in Wetumpka and graduated as Mr. Wetumpka, Mr. Citizenship, President of the Local National Honor Society, and President of the Senior Class. 

Dr. Shuford attended Alabama State University for one year and graduated from Huntingdon College of Montgomery, AL with a B.A. Degree in Religion and Philosophy in 1983. He received his Masters of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 1986. In 2003 he was bestowed an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. 

Dr. Shuford responded to the call to preach at 19 years of age, January 24, 1979. He received his first appointment from the late Bishop Alfred G. Dunston, Jr. to Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church of Matthews, AL, October 1979. 

Dr. Shuford has pastored over Zion Star, Zion Rest, Poplar Springs, Tolbert Chapel, and New Pleasant Valley, A.M.E. Zion Churches. He presently pastors Mount Zion (26 ½ yrs) and Mount Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Churches (17 ½ yrs) of Montgomery, AL. 

Dr. Shuford has had many affiliations. He has served as President of the A.M.E. Zion Ministerial Alliance (10 years), Vice President of the interdenominational Ministers Alliance (8 years), and First Vice President of the Ministers and Lay Association of the A.M.E. Zion Church (8 years), Montgomery Board of Adjustment Committee (3 yrs), Cleveland Avenue YMCA Board Member (4 yrs), NAACP Board Member (Metro Montgomery) (8 yrs). 

Dr. Shuford serves as a member on the Board of Trustees for Huntingdon College, Montgomery, AL and Lomax-Hannon Jr. College, Greenville, AL. He is also the Site Coordinator for the Hood Theological Seminary Extension Program in Greenville, AL. His most recent appointment is Dean of the Alabama-Florida Episcopal District Conference Studies. 

Dr. Shuford is married to Rev. Brenda Booker Shuford and has three children, Immanuel Claude, Mary Rebecca and Kaye Alexandria Shuford.
